How does bluetongue virus survive through the winter?

In 2006, Bluetongue virus - which infects livestock - reached Northern Europe for the first time. Some people thought that the outbreak would be limited to that particular year, as winter was expected to kill off the midges that host and spread the disease, bringing the threat of infection to an end. Reaction mechanism analyses performed with a 4? detector for the systems ^{208} Pb+Ge, ^{238} U+Ni and ^{238} U+Ge, combined with analyses of the associated reaction time distributions, provide us with evidence for nuclei with Z=120 and 124 living longer than 10^{-18} ??s and arising from highl...

NIGHT VISION/EOS 2008 CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION
22 - 23 OCTOBER 2008, -THE OLYMPIA CONFERENCE CENTRE, LONDON, UK London, UK - Now in its 20th year, this Shephard conference has been expanded to encompass the full range of Electro-Optical Systems (EOS), in recognition of the rapidly growing array of image intensifiers, thermal imagers, and laser systems being used by the military, security services and rescue organizations around the globe. For some time, mission commanders have enjoyed the freedom to operate during the night. But friendly forces are seeking more, in order to retain the edge in today’s fast-moving and uncertain operational environments. In order to offer forces the situational awareness required to prosecute their missions successfully 24 hours a day, a growing number of sophisticated EOS are being deployed in active theatres throughout the world.
